Defense Enterprise Architecture: Benefits and Risks Hichem Ben Abdallah Naval Postgraduate School Glenn Cook September, 16 2016 Enterprise Architecture: Benefits and Risks According to Bologa, Faur, and Ghisoiu (2010), Enterprise Architecture (EA) is a methodology that incorporate the processes of the domain to be automated; the software applications to be designed; the data and information to be gathered; and the technologic models to be conceived. In addition, Giachetti, R.E. (2010) suggested that the term enterprise is a whole complex, socio-technical system that includes not only information, processes, and technologies, but also people. According to the office of the Chief Information Officer (2012), the EA within the Department of Defense (DoD) tends to achieve desired capabilities to enable effective war fighting, business, and defense intelligence operations based on the DoD directives, policy, and investment decisions. In fact, combatant commanders benefit from EA during the war fighting in the organization and management of their war fighting assets (Cook, 2014). For instance, EA enhances war fighting effectiveness by providing instant situation awareness and minimizing costs in terms of ammunition and logistics assets. Additionally, EA allows a â€Å"rapid access to information for strategic decisions† (Cook, 2014).
